Human Rights Violations in Hpakant by the Military Junta (June 1–8, 2025)

Kachin State

In Hpakant Township, the military council has been shooting and killing civilians, burning down homes, and destroying workers’ residences and equipment since May. Between June 1 to 8, 2025, residential areas were deliberately set on fire (11) times, and (11) civilians were killed by heavy weapons fire. These actions constitute a violation of the fundamental rights (UHHR) of the people. Therefore, our organization strongly opposes and condemns such acts. Not only ASEAN member states, but all countries should take a firm stand and strongly oppose the military council’s violent actions to bring them to an end.
