Date. December 10th 2021
Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was adopted by United Nation General Assembly on 10th December 1948 and it is being use as a common living standard for all individuals across the Globe. December 10th is annually observed as International Human Rights Day. Today, we, Kachin Human Rights Watch (KHRW), celebrate the 73rd International Human Rights Day along with international communities. There were many Military Coup occurrences in Myanmar history and the most recent Military Coup occurred on 1st February 2021. It has been 10 months since military regime seized the power illegally. We are witnessing tremendous amount of human rights violation cases increasing across the country ever since.
In Kachin State, there were uprising against Military Coup from the joint forces of civilians, students, activists, and youths which are peaceful protestors. Many had been arrested by the regime and detained unlawfully. Today, the number of unlawful detainees is about 300. The regime has banned Kachin State base medias and arrested journalists. Medias are facing human rights violations where there is no freedom to collect news, no freedom for speech, and no freedom for expression. Ever since Military regime illegally seized the power, many women in Kachin State are facing sexual violence, being unlawfully detained, and threatening their life security on a daily basis. These violations by Myanmar Military regime provokes the UN Security Council Resolution 1820. Because Myanmar Military has been conducting offensive war in various places in Kachin State, ethnic civilians are forced to flee their homes and generating 3600 IDPs (internally displace person) recently.
Shelling of artillery, shooting small and heavy armed are destroying homes and properties and causing countless civilian casualties many of which are underaged children. The Military regime seized the power intentionally and as a result, we are witnessing human rights violations in the ethnic areas.
Universal Declaration of Human Rights proclaimed the rights of all human being. Thus, the regime and those who committed human rights violations must take responsibility for their actions. KHRW urges the regime and human rights violators to respect, protect and preserve Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
